The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has warned pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to stop supplying a batch of paracetamol after discoloured tablets were found in some packs.
The medicines regulator issued a “precautionary recall” of the batch (number 2312010) of Chelonia Healthcare Limited’s Paracetamol 500mg Tablets "in Genesis livery" after it was found to be contaminated.
The MHRA said another batch (2312011) was also being recalled “to mitigate any risk” as its “investigation and analysis remain ongoing”. It also urged healthcare professionals to quarantine all remaining stock and return it to their supplier.
The MHRA said the recall was prompted by “a small number of complaints of discoloured tablets found within some packs, reported by healthcare professionals”.
It advised patients or carers to contact their pharmacist if the tablets they have are from the two batches.
